Between the Rain and the Light, Epilogue

Epilogue – Don’t Rush Your Healing

Don’t rush your healing.

I know you want to.
We all do.
We want to close the wound before it even learns to breathe.
We want to skip to the part where it doesn’t hurt anymore.
But healing is not a race.
It’s a slow remembering of what it means to be alive.

There will be days when you feel like you’ve gone backward.
You haven’t.
You’ve simply paused to gather a piece of yourself you left behind.

There will be mornings when the light feels too bright,
and nights when silence presses too close.
That doesn’t mean you’re broken again.
It means your soul is stretching —
growing enough to hold more peace this time.

Healing isn’t linear.
It moves like the tide —
in and out,
pulling you toward yourself,
then away again,
until you learn to trust the rhythm.

Some days you’ll be the shore,
steady and welcoming.
Other days, you’ll be the wave,
crashing and restless.
Both are part of the ocean.
Both are part of you.

You don’t have to be grateful for every storm,
but you can thank the rain for what it revealed.
You don’t have to love every scar,
but you can learn to trace them with gentleness.

Your strength isn’t in how quickly you heal —
it’s in how tenderly you live while healing.

When you finally begin to see light again,
don’t rush toward it as if you’ve been rescued.
Walk slowly.
Let it meet you halfway.
Let it touch your face,
your hands,
your heart —
and remember,
it was never gone.
It was only waiting for you to turn.

One day, you’ll wake up and realize
you didn’t think about pain when you made your coffee.
You didn’t measure the morning by how heavy it felt.
You didn’t rehearse the story of what broke you.
You simply lived.

That day will arrive quietly,
like sunlight through rain.
You won’t even notice it at first.
You’ll just smile without asking why.

So breathe.
Rest.
Be gentle with yourself.

The rain will pass.
The light will return.
And somewhere between them —
between the ache and the awe,
the silence and the song —
you’ll find the part of you that never left.

And when you do,
you’ll understand what all of this was for.

Not to erase the pain,
but to teach you how to hold it without fear.
Not to make you someone new,
but to bring you home to yourself.

Don’t rush your healing.
It’s already becoming you.
