Between the Rain and the Light, Prologue

Prologue – Before the Rain

There are moments when life forgets how to move.
Not loudly, not in tragedy — but quietly,
like a held breath that never quite releases.

You wake up, and something is missing,
though you can’t name what.
The world looks unchanged,
but it hums at a lower frequency,
as if someone has dimmed the sound.

The sunlight that once poured freely through the window
now feels filtered — distant, unfamiliar.
Even the air moves differently,
thicker somehow, slower to reach you.

That’s where my story began.
Not in crisis, but in the long echo of it.
In the invisible pause that separates who you were
from who you are about to become.

Before the rain,
there was only restlessness —
a kind of quiet ache that settled in my chest and refused to leave.
I kept moving, talking, working, smiling —
as if momentum alone could save me.

But the truth was simpler:
I was exhausted from pretending I was fine.

The world loves the sound of strength.
It applauds survival,
but rarely asks what it costs to stay standing.

Then came the stillness.
And with it, the rain.

Not the kind that cleanses —
the kind that seeps in.
It rained for days,
the sky heavy with everything I didn’t know how to say.

And somewhere between one drop and the next,
I finally stopped running.

That’s where gratitude found me —
not as a lesson,
but as a whisper.
It didn’t arrive with sunlight or clarity,
but in the dim, trembling space
where I had run out of explanations.

It said, stay.
Just that.
No promises, no miracles.
Only the soft insistence
that maybe staying was enough.

This is not a story about sadness.
It’s a story about becoming.
About standing still long enough
to see what remains when everything else fades.

It’s about learning to breathe again,
to notice the small things,
to forgive the world for not being perfect —
and yourself, even more so.

Because somewhere between the rain and the light,
there is a place where life begins again.
And that’s where I found myself waiting.

Before the rain came the silence.
And from that silence, the light began to grow.
